Fountains of the great deep

Genesis 7:11,12
11. In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

Genesis 8: 2. The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;

These verses refer to a source of water called the fountains of the great deep. They are associated with the windows of heaven and the rain. The duration of all three were the same, being 40 days. This is evident form the fact that Genesis 7:11,12 shows them starting at the same time and Genesis 8: 2 shows the ending at the same time. Genesis 7:12 gives the duration of 40days and 40 nights. The three are clearly related and most likely in a cause and effect relationship.

The fountains of the deep seem to be a preflood subterranean water source. The tendency for marine fossils to be found near the bottom of strata columns, sugests that the fountains of the great deep erupted from the sea.

Hydroplate theory places the water below a 10 mile thick crust the remnants of is now the continental crust, making it the first flood model to deal with '''the fountains of the great deep'''.

The exact preflood location of this water varies with different models, but some definite conclusions can be drawn.

Modeling the fountains of the deep is an important aspect of any Flood model and one where Hydroplate theory excels. They are an important aspect of Flood geology but one that still requires much work.
