This is the first total eclipse of the sun visible in the continental United States in the 21st century. It will occur on August 21, 2017. This is eclipse is a great one for being in the United States since the path of totality cuts across the the United States is shown above and crosses 11 states including: Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina . However Kansas, Georgia, and North Carolina are only crossed in a small corner. The fact that this total eclipse of the sun crosses such a large portion of the United States makes it an eclipse that will be seen by many Americans. Look and see if you are in or near the path of totality and if so make plans to safely observe this spectacular event.
